Alan Silvestri works again with Robert Zemechis for a score with the old orchestra, offering a real Main Title Theme, as it is increasingly rare to find today. It is therefore an invitation to dream, with the wonderful, the innocent theme and light flowing from track to track. Added some background vocals and bells to mark the kind of the family Christmas movie.
All the same, and that the value added of this soundtrack very successful composer of "Death Becomes Her" knows introduce shadows, wielding the black humor with intelligence, without scaring the children, but questioning the dark fiber adults.
The dark side, clean the world of Dickens and Victorian England, are dragging the film and its music to the horror film, the bass strings, but like a ghost train, without losing sight of the game and entertainment, with playful pizzicato, and irony marked by a violin soloist and his distanced voice.
The music is by turns dramatic and humorous.
A variation of a Requiem by Fauré is even offered on "The Ghost of Christmas Past" creating a beautiful poetry macabre enough, suddenly broken by a cheerful air and dancing, then ending with a tender melody. On those breaks in tone within a single track, the composer has fun. All ends in song, with a "Touch my robe" worthy of a Victorian operetta.
Alan Silvestri's score offers his most inventive work since a long time, recalling the rich plays of "Who Killed Roger Rabbit?" to the same Zemechis, it is good to find in great shape.
